A Sustainable Stay

Making a small contribution to mending the world.

The House

  • Most of the furniture and fittings for 1965  have been sourced from auctions, second hand stores and op shops. Recycling and reusing furniture saves resources, reduces emissions, eliminates packaging and minimizes landfill. It is a healthier option - as there is no off gassing or toxic fumes. Money spent is also retained in the local economy supporting individuals, small businesses and local charities.
  • Ceiling insulation, ceiling fans and a small reverse cycle heater/air conditioner (with timer) enable the double brick building to maintain a comfortable ambient room temperature in all seasons.
  • Window awnings have been installed to shade those windows exposed to direct sunlight in the summer reducing heat transfer and therefore the need for artificial coolin
  • LED globes are used throughout the house.
  • An on demand gas hot water system ensures water is heated on an as needs basis only.
  • Washing machine
  • Dual flush toilet with low volume water usage

The Garden

  • Garden beds are mulched to conserve water in the soil
  • The garden has been planted out with hardy &/or native plants, including nectar producing plants to encourage and support native birdlife. A bird bath is in situ.
  • Gravel rather than paving has been used. Gravel is permeable.  Water can pass through permeable surfaces and make its way into the ground, where it is naturally filtered into  aquifers.

The Products

  • Wallawa Indigenous Botanical Skincare Range is supplied to guests. Revenue generated from  Wallawa Indigenous Botanical Skincare sales enables Corporate Connect.AB (CCAB) , a Supply Nation Certified organisation, to work with businesses, government agencies and Indigenous communities. Our mission is to take practical approaches, tailored to business and community needs, to provide ongoing support to achieve sustainable outcomes. http://www.healthpak.com.au/ab...

  • Local businesses are the first choice to provide services and supplies which retains money in and builds the local economy and minimizes emissions from transport.
  • Guests are reminded of the fragile hills environment and encouraged to be mindful of the impact of visiting.
  • Both Sam and Kim are active participants in Lobethal community clubs & associations to help build the social capital of the town.
